5 out of 5 stars Hozelock Aqua Control Water Timer excels!   May 27, 2009

Hozelock Aqua Control Water Timer

During the summer months one can never predict how long the drier periods will last and regular watering with a hand held hose can be quite a chore. Having already tried a Gardena product with frequent failures, despite the replacement of several electronic LCD modules, I almost gave up in despair when I was told by a friend that he'd never experienced problems like this with his Hozelock controller.

I wanted something simple and reliable so I was persuaded to try the Hozelock Aqua Control. Battery costs are lower because it doesn't require the more expensive 9 volt battery I had in my previous controller. I found it simple to setup and it has now been operating for more than a month without a problem. I am confident I can look forward to a reliable watering system that will keep my plants watered throughout the summer ... well done Hozelock!

I've used this timer for about a week now and it seems to work very well. I only really need it for watering the greenhouse and veg patch while I'm away and, by using a hose Y junction and a couple of sprinklers, it does the job well. If you want more complex timing options then you will have to go for the next model up but this one is fine for my needs.

Basic simple to use and robust which is all it needs to be, unless you want all the whistles and bells of the functions you will probably never use this is just fine to do the job, easy to work and change the timer on you can leave in the on position and it will turn it's self off when finished, or choose graduated times dependent on the conditions, would a rain sensor help? depends what you are doing if there is a risk of overwatering then go up to that model, if not the only grump I can throw at this is that to set the time it turns on you have to set it at that time, it then remembers and this becomes the default when it jumps into life, however if you make the mistake when turning the dial of going over the section for time setting it will set it to the current time, in use it's simple, just think about what you are doing and it will become a reliable friend.

5 out of 5 stars EASY CAREFREE WATERING   June 20, 2010

Over the years I have had about 6 different Hozelock water timers all of which were good but like everything else eventually wear out. They all fail in the end because of water leaking through the small seal inside the unit, so that when switched off a small trickle seaps through. Having said that you should get at least 3 seasons out of the timer. I set mine to water twice a day from May when I fill my pots, hanging baskets and window boxes until the first frost in the autumn. This year I bought the AC1 timer which is basic and dead easy to programme. You have to remember that the actual time of day you physically programme the timer is the time it will start every day. For example I set mine to water twice a day, so I did it at 6.45pm and therefore it waters {2 minutes} every day at 6.45 am and 6.45pm. There are lots of other permutations you can use all equally simple to set up. So you can relax go away weekends and holidays confident that your flowers will be alive and thriving when you return.

Purchased this to water a very expensive collection of Bonsia whilst holidaying in the States I must admit to some trepidation on going but the unit exceeded all my expectations also the ease of the set up was simply a joy
